Joplin Regal Northstar Theater closing today

Today is the last day for The Regal Northstar 14 theater in Joplin is closing today.

The theater, which opened December 18, 1998 as Hollywood Theaters- Northstar 14 after the theaters in Northpark Mall closed. Regal Cinemas bought the theater in 2013.

The following statement was issued by Regal Senior Communications Manager Kevan Kerr:

Unfortunately, Regal has made the difficult decision to cease operations at Regal Northstar to optimize our theatre network and better position our company for long-term growth.

Most importantly, we are working to support our team members at the Northstar theatre during this process, and we truly appreciate their continued hard work through the August 20 closing date.

Lastly, Regal wants to extend sincere thanks to the local moviegoing community and our loyal customers for sharing many laughs, tears, and thrills with us at the theatre over the years.

The closing comes three and a half years after the closing of Springfield's Regal College Station Theatre. When that facility closed, a statement was issued anonymously by the "College Station Theatre," and closed by saying, "If you are looking for another Regal to visit, we invite you to Regal Northstar in Joplin MO as the next closest theatre."

When you’ve done nothing to the place since 98 it’s no surprise no one wants to go there.

Maybe - AMC Theatres: The largest movie theater chain in the world and the United States, operating over 7,000 screens across hundreds of domestic locations will purchase it and remodel it.

i've been attending since they reopened after the Initial pandemic Closure. I've never had a sticky floor in there. I had just finished my 75th movie this year when I got the news that they were closing. I was on the Regal unlimited plan, about $23 per month and then $.55 per movie.. A lot of retirees were enjoying and utilizing the facility. It was also an economical outing for large families. would you like to see a refitted for modern Usage? If an investor buys or leases the space to refit it for advanced virtual reality, simulation, or tactical training applications, they cannot escape the building department entirely. Joplin’s municipal code dictates that any "change of occupancy" or significant structural, electrical, and mechanical alteration requires formal permits.
