The school year ended today for the Joplin R-8 School District.
At South Middle School, we had the annual awards assembly and talent show. Fortunately, I was not one of the participants in the talent portion, but I did present some awards for my class and for my Journalism Award. Top student awards went to Ashley Kissee, who also served as managing editor for the Journalism Club, and Kelsey Sanders. The top writer awards went to Skye Smith and Andrea Steere. Both of those young ladies also finished in the top 10 in the South essay and short story contests, which were held during the second semester, with Andrea taking first place in short story and second place in essay. Skye has been our feature specialist for Journalism Club. The work of both girls can be seen on my class and Journalism Club website, www.room210.com . I look forward to seeing the further accomplishments of those four young ladies as they move on to Joplin High School.
