Locations weren't given, but Nexstar CEO Perry Sook says that five Nexstar stations in four locations are for sale.
Sook's announcement, made during the recent announcement of quarterly results, is noted in today's electronic edition of Radio and Television Business Report. Nexstar owns KSNF in Joplin and KSFX in Springfield, and operates KODE in Joplin and KOLR in Springfield for Mission Broadcasting.
How many stations do they own?
ReplyDeleteAccording to their web site they own 28 stations. Surely they are not selling any of the ones they manage or any station that would be in the same market as the managed stations. So that leaves 5 out of ten markets to guess from
ReplyDeleteSince they are selling 5 stations in 4 markets, they are obviously selling 2 stations in one market. So some twofer town (Joplin?) is on the block.
ReplyDeleteNow this is just a guess, so maybe it won't be called reckless.

WDHN Dothan, Al.
KMID Midland-Odessa, Tx.
WCIA Champaign, IL.
WCFN Springfield, IL.
Then I guess the real question should be why they are selling stations and not buying more.
I think the answer to that question is obvious: Nexstar is hemmoraging money and the "big plan" to increase revenue (getting cable to pay a per-subscriber fee) didn't work.
ReplyDeleteAbandon hope, all ye who enter.
As someone who works for Nexstar, I hope my station is among those up for sale. Anyplace would be better than this.
