Rep. Bryan Stevenson, R-Webb City, has reached the $2,000 mark in the amount of gifts received from lobbyists, according to reports filed with the Missouri Ethics Commission. Only a handful of state representatives have reached the $2,000 mark, led by Rep. Steve Hunter, R-Joplin, who is only about five dollars short of $3,000.
A big chunk of his most recent gifts come from lobbyists associated with Ameristar Casinos, the disclosure reports indicate. On Oct. 20, Stevenson received four gifts, each worth $63.18 from Ameristar lobbyists, including $63.18 each from William A. Gamble, Jorgen Schlemeier, and Sarah Topp. The fourth lobbyist, Betsy Morgan, paid $63.18 for meals, food and beverage, according to the report.
Gamble also gifted Stevenson with $224.80 for travel on Sept. 21, the Ethics Commission documents said. Gamble's reports indicate that money was not in service of Ameristar, but of the Missouri Railroad Association. Whatever the trip was, it wasn't just for Stevenson, the report said. Gamble also reported paying $224.80 for Stevenson's wife.
