Globe looking for someone to take charge of sports coverage

The Joplin Globe is advertising for an executive sports editor. The following advertisement is featured on www.journalismjobs.com:

"The Joplin Globe, a daily newspaper in the beautiful Gateway to the
Ozarks, is looking for an executive sports editor. We need someone
passionate about the fans, parents, issues and personalities of the
local sports world. The successful candidate will be able to
demonstrate highly evolved design skills and a track record of helping

    CVH is used to the pace of a weekly. I don't think he would adjust well to the daily grind.

    Vonder Haar is the obvious pick. A Southern grad and famaliar with the area. The Globe needs to see if he is intersted. His current paper is a bi-weekly, they have a 2-man sports department and their sports page is amazing, don't give me that "pace of a weekly" stuff.

    Let's boil the ad down: Wanted, top-notch sports journalist who can do everything yet will work for peanuts. Did Brent get tired of giving up weeks of his vacation, like he did last year?

    Passionate sports coverage begins with the writers and ends with the sports editor. As long as the writing at the Globe continues to exist in the same, tired lead-score-quote-stat-quote-stat-quote format, it will never matter how "passionate" the editor/paginator is. Jim Fryar isn't exactly brimming with passion, either.
