A Sept. 12 trial date has been set for Accused internet pervert Gary Reed Blankenship. The case will be heard in McDonald County Circuit Court on a change of venue from Missouri.
A pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. Aug. 11.
Blankenship, 56, Neosho, a former O'Sullivan Industries official, was arrested following one of Diamond Police officer Jim Murray's internet sex stings. Murray entered a chat room pretending to be an underaged girl. Police say Blankenship propositioned the "teen," arranged for a meeting with her to have sex, then was arrested when he arrived on Jan. 27, 2005.
Blankenship faces eight counts of possession of child pornography, one count of enticing a child, and one count of promoting obscene material to a minor.
I have no patience, no sympathy for those convicted of these types of crimes. Zero. I am confident you feel the same.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, Mr. Turner, you cheapen yourself by referring to someone as a "convicted internet sex pervert."
You know full well that is not the standard of the industry on which you daily offer your expert opinion. And, although it's your call--because it's your blog-- it makes me wonder about your good judgement overall.
I would rather learn the exact crime the guy was convicted of. That, and details, would convey just as much emphasis as the streetcorner lingo.
If you ran a paper would you use such general terms?
Just to clarify and stick up for what Rabdy actually said. The word was "ACCUSED" not convicted. If we are going to argue about it, lest at least get the facts right.
ReplyDeleteSorry meant Randy
ReplyDeleteThe wheels of justice sure are slow.
ReplyDeleteSorry myself. But the part of the phrase I refer to is "internet sex pervert."
ReplyDeleteSurely there must be a way of finding terminology that conveys the revolting nature of the alleged crime--without forcing the writer to use conversational language.
Sorry for the mistake, Randy.
