Sen. Delbert Scott's voter identification bill was debated through the night and into the morning hours, according to an Associated Press article. The star quotes Scott as saying,"Our own participation in voting is flagging. Voters in Missouri have lost confidence in the system. We must do everything we can to improve voter confidence in our elections."
If Scott, a Lowry City Republican whose district includes Barton County, truly believes this will bring voters flooding back to the polls, he will have a rude awakening if this bill goes through. Voters are not staying away because they think the elections are rigged and riddled with fraud. For the most part, the ones who are staying away simply don't care.
Scott's proposal seems more designed to keep poor and disenfranchised voters from exercising their constitutional rights.
