April 11 pre-trial hearing set for Jasper councilman

It was probably a case that should never have been brought in the first place, but a pre-trial hearing in the assault case against newly-elected Jasper City Councilman Jim McCorkle is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, in Jasper County Circuit Court before Judge Joseph Schoeberl.
If you recall, McCorkle was among those arrested by the Jasper County Sheriff's Department following a fracas at the March 2 city council meeting. The blowup occurred as part of the continuing friction between McCorkle and the mayor at that time John Rodebush, who resigned after two of those who opposed him, McCorkle and Vic Crazybear, were elected to the council this week.
Hopefully, someone will have the sense to dismiss these charges. Obviously, no one behaved well at the council meeting, but for these cases to continue is simply a waste of the taxpayers' money.

Note: Judge Schoeberl swore McCorkle and Crazybear into office Friday. A special council meeting was scheduled for 3 p.m. today.
