In a news release issued Thursday, GateHouse Media announced loans worth $762 million that will enable the company to complete its purchase of more than 100 New England newspapers.
According to the release, "Upon the closing of these acquisitions, GateHouse will be one of the largest community newspaper companies in the United States publishing 77 daily newspapers, 271 non-daily newspapers and 136 shoppers and other publications, with operations in 17 states."
In southwest Missouri, GateHouse publishes The Carthage Press, Joplin Daily, Neosho Daily News, Neosho Post, and the Big Nickel.
