Globe parent buys Virginia television station

Southeastern Media Holdings, a subsidiary of Joplin Globe parent company Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. (CNHI) has purchased Richmond television station WUPV, a CW affiliate, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
The article features the following brief description of CNHI:

CNHI was founded in 1997 and began buying small newspapers. Today, it owns about 90 small daily newspapers in 22 states. In 2003, it acquired its three television stations for its Southeastern Media Holdings division.

CNHI has received funding from the Retirement Systems of Alabama, which administers pension investments for teachers, judges and state employees. Barrett described the pension system as "our primary lender."
