Missouri lawmakers divided over Bush Iraq plan

Associated Press offers comments from Missouri's Congressional delegation following President Bush's announcement of a plan to send 20,000 additional troops into Iraq.

Senator Kit Bond supported the plan:

"The key to success in Iraq is having the Iraqis take control of their security," Bond said. "That is at the heart of this plan. If more troops are needed to accomplish this, then that option should be on the table."

Democrat Claire McCaskill disagrees with the president's strategy:

"This escalation appears to be hopeful, but not sound, in terms of being based on real assurances that the Iraqi people are going to begin standing up for themselves," McCaskill said.
