I am always amused by the Joplin Globe coverage whenever another political feud erupts in the city of Jasper.
Each time the coverage makes it appear that nothing like this has ever happened in Jasper before. Having covered the Jasper City Council off and on for 17 years, I remember flareups of this sort happening every few years.
The events need to be covered, but a little perspective would be nice.
It's hard to get perspective when you change reporters more often than I change underwear.
ReplyDeleteThe best Jasper story of all time is "Road House." Gotta love that movie! If only Dalton were still around.
ReplyDeleteUntil "Roadhouse," I didn't realize there was such a hopping juke joint scene in Jasper.
ReplyDeleteLong time resident.
I would like for them to get both sides in print. So far it has been very one sided.
ReplyDeleteThe following was mailed to an individual, and is from one that the "Globe" is supporting:
ReplyDelete"Greg,
"For you to sit on my couch and tell us what a low life JR Good is. To tell us what a loser you think Dusty Nelson is and even the stuff you have said about the McCorkle's. What a liar you are. A two faced back stabbing lier. But don't feel to bad because JR sat on my couch and told us what a piece of sh** you were. Every single person we ever mentioned your name to said, "Now when that piece of sh** is done using you for whatever reason he will stab you in the back." Jerry said whatever. And like a dam* fool I would defend you. Guess you got the last laugh. But only for awhile. Because your turn is coming. You will be thrown away when they are done with you. And they will be done sooner or later.
"JR is one of the dumbest piece of sh** I have ever meant. Have never liked him. And sure as he** never trusted him. My mistake was I trusted you.
"Wouldn't your mama be PROUD? Don't think so.
"You can go to HE**.
"Now make sure you show all your little back stabbing buddies. What goes around comes around. Your mama told me that the first time I meant her.
"(signed - Susie Ogle"
Greg Im pleased you wanted to share my letter with everyone. I knew you would. And I meant every word of it.
ReplyDeleteSusan Ogle
The letter was mailed to Greg Wampler my husband cousin son
ReplyDeleteWho cares if it was your husband cousin son?
ReplyDeleteThat is like the dumbest thing I think I have heard.
MY FLIPPING GOODNESS!!!!! How old is Susan anyways....that is just a little uncalled for! I thought about going to look at house in Jasper that was for sell but I dont think I can bring myself to live in a town like that and I wouldnt want my child to go to school their. I think someone needs to get a life and maybe spend quality time with their family instead of writing crappy letters
ReplyDeleteJasper has a good school system. It has nothing to do with the city, just except for being in it (wouldn't hurt to move the campus to the rural area and call it Jasper County or maybe Carytown Eagles). It is a town in a nice location on the north end of the metro area and along the line between Ozarks & plains, plus to mention it sits on a future interstate. The city government needs to get refocused and capitalize on these benefits they have.
ReplyDeleteSusan sound like a person who believes in her husband. And when someone stabs that love one in the back you stand up for them.
ReplyDeleteWhat has she done that is so wrong. I think the bunch of you are jealous no one ever fought like that for you.
So big deal the woman said three cuss words. Words most use everyday. Get over yourself.
You go Susan. Grandma she she knows you. And has always known you to fight for your loved ones.
Good luck JFO hope you win Tuesday. You would make a good mayor.
I can't believe Turner allowed this trash on here. A private letter should stay private. Don't take much thinking to see who wants to cause trouble in the small town of JASPER. GW doesn't even live in Jasper.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't he own rental property and have a plumbing business in town?
ReplyDeleteMy flippin goodness this was suppose to be family. Suppose thats why it upset them so much.
ReplyDeleteIn reference to the "Road House" comments...
ReplyDeleteAnd I didn't realize Jasper was located "just outside Kansas City" *chuckle*.
Whoever wrote that movie certainly didn't look at a Missouri map.
Recently, I was watching a comedy movie where the main character was from Kickapoo, Missouri -- which I suppose is a portion of Springfield... yet, they showed a map and they had it located down by the boot heel -- my friends and I had quite a laugh over that.
