Senate still hasn't voted on bill to waive missed school days

So much for Sen. Gary Nodler's claims of how fast the Senate was going to handle Rep. B. J. Marsh's bill to waive school days missed due to January's ice storm.
Though the end of school is less than two months and it is absolutely necessary for school officials to know what they can and cannot do, the Senate apparently will make no decision on the bill until next week.
The Senate's Education Committee gave the bill a "Do Pass" recommendation eight days ago, and it was scheduled to be brought up Wednesday for a vote, but it appears other matters took precedence.
While I am not particularly concerned whether the Joplin R-8 School District makes up the days or not, (it would be four days for us, which is really no big deal) I am amazed that so much legislation is being passed for which there is no real need, i.e. the castle doctrine bill, while the legislature takes it time on deciding something which obviously does have a time limit attached to it.
The Senate calendar indicates Sen. Jack Goodman, R-Mount Vernon, will handle Marsh's bill and that it will come up for its final vote on Monday. Thank God the Senate is handling the matter quickly.

My understanding was it was put on the consent agenda, so it wouldn't have anything added to it. When something's on the consent agenda, it must be posted for seven days.

Okay, but could it not have been done in February?

Randy - sometimes it's sad that you know so little about which you speak...what a negative you are...get a life and try to find some good in something besides your own opinion.

Spoken like a true Republican! If its not to your liking, its wrong, probably illegal and certainly immoral. Someday maybe we can have a special cemetery for Repugs so they won't have to be buried with us common people.

I just checked and the Marsh bill is on the consent calendar and waiting until the rules allow it to be brought to the floor. Nodler’s education committee had a hearing the first day that they could under the rules and voted it consent the same day and sent it on to the full Senate. What is Randy’s beef with Nodler? If you are frustrated by the process that’s one thing, but why pick on the guy that has made things happen faster on this bill than anyone else in Jefferson City? You might try just saying than you to Senator Nodler! Randy you are wrong again or should I say as usual.

  7. As usual, the Nodler defender makes a lame attempt to throw everyone off track with his immense knowledge of the arcane rules of the Senate. If you think the Senate has handled this bill in a speedy fashion (and if you do, I have some swampland I would like to sell you) I suggest you check the actual calendar. Rep. Marsh's bill was passed by the House on March 5. It is scheduled to come up before the Senate on April 16, a total of 42 days or six weeks later. Even taking into account the spring recess, no one can say with a straight face (unless he is defending Gary Nodler, of course) that this bill has been dealt with swiftly.
As for the comment about me getting a life and finding some good in something besides my opinion...hmmm, I would think it more likely that a person who spends his time reading something he knows is going ot upset him and obsesses with it is the one who needs to get a life. All I am doing is providing people with information that they do not receive from their elected officials or from the media.

Randy, your ignorance is profound. First the Senate rules are not “arcane” they are neither mysterious nor secret. If you were a reporter, you would call the Senate switchboard as I do when I want to know about the rules and ask for someone to answer a question about Senate rules. You will be connected to Senate Research or to the Secretary of the Senate where your questions will be answered as mine are. It is interesting that when someone gives you the facts when you have made an erroneous criticism of our Senator, you call them Nodler supporter or Nodler lover when they may just be lovers of truth and fairness. These are the facts; The Marsh bill, I think it is HB-678, was in the hands of Nodler’s Education Committee exactly 9 legislative days, and 2 committee hearing days. The bill was heard on the first day it could be heard on and sent on to the full Senate the same day. The calendar requirement for consent bills has not yet expired, I believe that will happen next Monday or Tuesday and it is expected that the bill will be passed on the first day that it can be. These are the facts, real reporters try to find them out before popping off like you, but then you never were a real reporter.

Springfield has already decided they are making up the days no matter what. Don't know about other school districts.

  10. You are so interested in protecting Gary Nodler's interests that you have absolutely no concept of common sense as everyone else sees it. The bill was approved by the House March 5. It will be voted on by the Senate April 16 (maybe). That is six weeks!Gary Nodler said the bill was being acted upon quickly. Gary Nodler is wrong. If he believes the bill has been acted upon quickly, it explains a lot about why our state legislature accomplishes so little.

I have to join in on this. It seems like turner has grown more and more frustrated when things are pointed out to him. He has no response with any substance and has resorted to taking shots at posters on this site who do not agree with him. At the same time he has criticized others who have done the same thing and seems to live by a tremendous double standard. An example of this is when a poster agrees with him and he takes a shot at their opinion because they make a typo. We are not writing thesis papers here. Many simply want to post and express their opinion but Turner can't allow that. He is an idiot. He continues to say that he uses "facts" but until a person provides documentation to back up their statements, they are simply opinions.

Randy, You say the bill was approved by the House on March 5 that does not mean it was sent to the Senate that day. What day was it sent? It was reported to Nodler's Committee March 12. As far as I can determine there is no record of it being in the Senate until it was second read and referred to committee March 12. I don't think you can verify that it was in the Senate before then if you can do so! You continue to ignore the fact that it came to the Senate the week before Spring break so as a practical matter it was in the Senate for purposes of legislative action beginning Monday March 26. These are simple facts. The way you hate facts and truth I am sure this will trigger another tantrum from you!

  13. Wow.
Of all the things someone could be upset about, "Anonymous" chooses this. WHO CARES? It's a blog for Christ's sake! And it's not like it's really even anything that matters! If someone can't even write on their own blog these days, what CAN you do? Ha. Whoever is so set on arguing with you but they don't even have the courage to use their name, or ANY name at all. Pathetic. I don't know who that was, but they seem pretty pathetic to me.
Want to take a shot at me too, tough guy?

You will note Republican "anonymous" is always brave, but not brave enough to put their name on anything. They run wildly about the room, blathering, banging their head into the wall, protecting their flock, and saying nothing. They learned this from Cheney. He's always wrong, wouldn't know the truth if it was stamped on his forehead, but sticks with his story.

There will be a great day of sorting ahead for them. If there is anything to the good book, perhaps they should get a good asbestos suit.

Andrea & David Rust are off topic as usual attacking those who post rather than discussing the issues. This seems to be indication that they are frustrated by the facts and want to shoot the messenger.

I made a mistake I said Andrea and David Rust but it turns out that the comment that put David Rust's name at the bottom was posted anonymous, I guess I was confused because it started out attacking anonymous posters before being posted anonymous itself. As for Andrea, "who cares?", you do enough to attack others and engage in name calling, all the while avoiding the issue being discussed.

Oh by the way Andrea, you forgot to include your last name....that makes you "anonymous", just so no one misses your hypocrisy.

I put my name on the bottom of the article. I click on anonymous to post because its too damn much trouble to remember a bunch of passwords and sign in.

Now Mr/Mrs. Anonymous, put your name on yours, or go sit on your front porch and talk to yourself.
