You have to give Rep. Jane Cunningham, R-Chesterfield, points for consistency. The chairman of the House Education Committee, who is probably the biggest enemy public education has in the state legislature, could not even bring herself to vote to allow school districts to waive days missed during the January ice storm.
Ms. Cunningham, who became Education Committee Chairman after writing a letter to House Speaker Rod Jetton bragging about how much money she brought into Republican campaign accounts from voucher proponents All Children Matter, cast one of seven negative votes received by Senate Bill 376 (it was not Rep. B. J. Marsh's bill, as I incorrectly stated in a post earlier today).
As far as Joplin-area representatives are concerned, Ed Emery, R-Lamar, Ron Richard, R-Joplin, Steve Hunter, R-Joplin, Bryan Stevenson, R-Webb City, and Kevin Wilson, R-Neosho, all voted for the bill.
The five absentees included Rep. Marilyn Ruestman, R-Joplin, and B. J. Marsh, R-Springfield.
