Blunt: Bush lack of popularity has nothing to do with lower GOP fundraising expectations

Seventh District Congressman Roy Blunt refuses to acknowledge what political observers have noted: President Bush's plummeting popularity is cutting off the flow of big bucks to GOP coffers.

Blunt acknowledged that Bush’s relationship with congressional Republicans is rocky. “Every president in his second term has difficulty working with the legislature, and President Bush is no different,” Blunt said, but disputed that the lowered financial goals reflected disenchantment with Bush.

Instead, Blunt said, it was due to donor fatigue after the midterm elections.
