Governor's office apologizes for tornado message

Earlier this afternoon, Governor Matt Blunt's spokeswoman Jessica Robinson apologized for a media advisory sent out Friday citing "inclement weather and tornadoes in the Joplin area" as the reasons for canceling the governor's scheduled stop at West Central Elementary School.

"When the pilots were talking about a level-five thunderstorm, that was misinterpreted as a tornado," Robinson said. "We didn't check the local, on-the-ground weather before sending out that advisory."

Robinson apologized for the confusion.
