In documents filed in U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Wal-Mart officials have asked the judge to dismiss former company executive Julie Roehm's lawsuit, claiming that she is a resident of Arkansas, not Michigan, so the case has been filed in the wrong court.
The documents indicate Ms. Roehm has homes in both states, but pays taxes in and has a driver's license in Arkansas. Company officials also note that Ms. Roehm signed an agreement saying that disputes would be settled in Arkansas. If the judge rules in Wal-Mart's favor, Ms. Rohem would have to refile her case in Arkansas.
Ms. Roehm was fired following allegations that she accepted gifts from an advertising agency that deals with Wal-Mart. She was in charge of marketing and communications. Company officials also claimed Ms. Roehm had an affair with someone who worked for her.
In her lawsuit, Ms. Roehm leveled a number of charges at Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott. Those were outlined in the May 26 Turner Report.
