Mid-year review Part II, May 2007

As I continue my review of stories featured in The Turner Report during the first six months of 2007, it doesn't take long to do May. May is always a busy time since it is the last month of school and activities are taking place nearly every night, but this year, I had the added fun of rehearsing for a Natural Disaster concert and preparing for a signing for Devil's Messenger at Hastings.

Still, these stories were published during the month:

May 30- This post examined the amount of money Speaker of the House candidate Ron Richard, R-Joplin, received from lobbyists during a Jan. 2 event.

May 29- House Speaker Pro Tem Carl Bearden was under fire for being employed by the Missouri Health Care Association. The Turner Report showed he was also receiving considerable campaign financing from nursing home industry.

May 16- The national group Justice for Juveniles takes an interest in the Memorial Middle School shooting case.

May 13- The 2006 state auditor candidacy of Sandra Thomas was primarily an effort to cover up the license fee office scandal.

May 12- Taxpayers will foot the bill for internet pervert Gary Reed Blankenship's appeal of his own guilty plea.

May 8- A federal judge signed off on a settlement of a lawsuit filed against Catholic Church officials.

May 8- Silver Dollar City owners filed a lawsuit trying to recoup half a million dollars they paid to a woman who was in an accident at Celebration City.

May 2- Glenna McKitterick filed a motion to dismiss her lawsuit against Catholic Church officials after a settlement was reached.

May 2- The Missouri Supreme Court will not hear white supremacist Robert Joos' appeal of his conviction for driving without a license.

May 1- Rep. Steve Hunter, R-Joplin, piles up gifts from casino lobbyists.
