It appears that former Joplin Police Chief Kevin Lindsey, now chief of the Fort Smith, Ark. Police Department, is receiving strong backing from his officers and a large segment of the community, even while three of his officers are under investigation:
Sgt. Jeff Morgan was placed on paid leave Wednesday night, Lindsey said, in connection with the investigation of two high-ranking Fort Smith officers, Major Jeff Barrows and Capt. Steve Howard, who are being investigated for what Lindsey called major violations.
Lindsey would not disclose the nature of the ongoing investigation.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette article goes on to describe Lindsey's backing:
At the same time the investigation of Barrows and Howard began, officers began circulating petitions supporting Lindsey as chief amid rumors he was going to be terminated and replaced by Barrows or Howard.
Lindsey was police chief in Joplin, Mo., before he was sworn in to lead Fort Smith’s police force in January.
More than 600 Fort Smith police officers, citizens and officers from surrounding agencies have signed petitions that have been turned over to City Administrator Randy Reed.
