Gutteridge, Jackie Stiles named to Kansas Hall of Fame
One of the last surviving members of the St. Louis Cardinals Gashouse Gang Don Gutteridge, and former Southwest Missouri State University basketball great Jackie Stiles are among 12 new members of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame who will be inducted Oct. 21.
Gutteridge, one of the most delightful people I ever had the opportunity to interview, not only played for the Cardinals at one point, but also played against them in two World Series. In 1944, Gutteridge played for the St. Louis Browns against the Cardinals in the first all-Missouri World Series, while two years later he was a member of the Boston Red Sox when they played the Cards. The Cardinals won both Series.
Stiles played for the second team that Coach Cheryl Burnett took all the way to the NCAA Final Four.
