Hearing date stricken for Memorial Middle School shooter

The next hearing for Memorial Middle School shooter Thomas Gregory White has been postponed while White's lawyers take his case to the Missouri Supreme Court in an effort to have him sent back to juvenile court.

Documents filed in Jasper County Circuit Court indicate the case is on hold while White's public defenders file motions for a writ of prohibition or a writ of mandamus which would overrule Judge David Mouton's decision to try White, 14, as an adult.

White was 13 and a seventh grader at Memorial Oct. 7, 2006, when he brought an assault rifle into the school, fired the weapon into the ceiling, then pointed the gun at Principal Steve Gilbreth and allegedly attempted to pull the trigger. Authorities say the weapon jammed.

A pre-trial hearing had been scheduled for Friday, Sept. 21.
