My mom, JoAnn Turner, has been named Citizen of the Year and will be honored during the annual Newtonia Fall Festival Saturday.
Mom has been helping run the annual event during most of its existence. She will ride in the parade at 2 p.m.
My dad, Bill Turner, was the citizen of the year a few years back.
Mom will be probably be irritated with me mentioning this since they had to talk her into accepting it anyway, but I'm proud of her and wanted everyone to know.
