Lt. Keith Meyer of the Joplin Police Department is one of five candidates scheduled to interview Saturday, Oct. 6, for the Forest City, Ark. police chief position, according to an article in today's Forest City Times-Herald:
(Mayor Gordon) McCoy said he believes that a new chief will be chosen from these five.
“We’re looking forward to having them here, and we’re hoping to hire one out of this bunch,” he said. “I think we are going to be successful this time. These are some highly-qualified people.”
He said all the candidates either meet or exceed the requirements for a new chief.
“All of the guys have at least a bachelor’s degree, most have a master’s. One of the requirements was to have a degree, and I feel really good about that,” McCoy said.
Another requirement was for at least three years of supervisory experience, “and everyone has that.”
The candidates are as follows: John Farmer of Scott's Bluff, Neb.; Douglas Wright of Gary, Ind.; Daniel L. Aneale of Albuquerque, N.M.; Keith Myers of Joplin, Mo., and Michael Foster of Winchester, Tenn.
This is the second search for chief candidates that the mayor has made. After going through a number of applicants, McCoy announced in June that he would be starting over. The appointment of a new police chief was one of McCoy’s campaign promises when he ran for mayor.
Meyer is a 20-year veteran of the Joplin Police Department and is a graduate of Seneca High School and Missouri Southern State University.
