St. Louis senator files motion to dismiss
Sen. Jeff Smith, D-St. Louis, filed a motion today in Cooper County Circuit Court to dismiss misdemeanor charges in connection with his use of Rep. Joe Aull's identication card to gamble during a lobbyist-funded junket to the Isle of Capri Casino in Boonville July 31.
The motion, submitted by Smith's attorney, St. Louis lobbyist Joseph Bednar, asks for either an outright dismissal or for a bill of particulars specifying the charges against Smith.
Smith, Aull, and lobbyist Lynne Schlosser, who lost her position representing Isle of Capri following the incident, have been charged. All are scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow (Tuesday).
The junket was funded by another Isle of Capri lobbyist, Chris Liese, according to Missouri Ethics Commission records.
