Thompson presents plan for Social Security

For maybe the first time in the debate, Fred Thompson is coming across as engaged and shall I use the word presidential. As he explained his plan for Social Security, which he says is the only one that has been presented this year by a GOP candidate (I will try to set up a link for the debate transcript later for those who want to go through the program.
Mitt Romney, in response, suggested that one thing that needed to be considered is increasing the retirement age.
When moderator Chris Wallace asked how he would handle it when the Democrats opposed his proposal, Thompson suggested he would go over the heads of the Democrats and take his case directly to the American people (something which failed miserably for President Bush)

John McCain noted that, in 1983, he worked with Democrats to revise Social Security and suggested that a similar approach would be necessary this time.
