Former Joplin Police Chief's opponent to resign

The Joplin Globe has just posted the latest chapter in the ongoing saga of former Joplin Police Chief Kevin Lindsey's position as police chief in Fort Smith, Ark.
Apparently, Randy Reed, the city administrator who was scheduled to recommend Lindsey's dismissal tonight, has instead decided to submit his own resignation. This passage comes from Globe reporter Derek Spellman's article:

Bill Maddox, one of Fort Smith’s directors, told the Globe in a phone interview late Tuesday afternoon that City Administrator Randy Reed was going to recommend that the panel fire Lindsey after the latter was placed on administrative leave late last week.

But Maddox said he learned Tuesday that Reed would be resigning as administrator, although he said Reed had not yet contacted him personally with word of when and why he would be leaving.

A phone message left for Reed on Tuesday was not returned, but his office did confirm that he had submitted his resignation. Information about when the resignation would take effect and whether the Board of Directors would have to vote to accept it was unavailable.
