HB 1341, also known as Ethan's Law, received its second reading in the Senate today and was assigned to the Small Business, Insurance and Industrial Relations Committee.
The House passed the bill April 3 by a 143-5 margin. The bill requires for-profit swimming pools to carry sufficient insurance.
The bill, which is sponsored by Rep. Marilyn Ruestman, R-Joplin, and is co-sponsored by five legislators, including Rep. Bryan Stevenson, R-Webb City, Rep. Ed Emery, R-Lamar, and Rep. Kevin Wilson, R-Neosho, is named after six-year-old Ethan Cory, who drowned at The Swimmin' Hole in Joplin on July 17, 2007.
