News-Leader offers solid account of Feltner scandal

Chad Livengood has quickly made a mark for himself in the few months since he has taken over capital coverage for the Springfield News-Leader, and he acquits himself well once again today with his coverage of the scandal surrounding Eric Feltner, former chief of staff to Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder:

Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder forced his chief of staff Eric Wayne Feltner to resign Friday following news that Feltner faces charges of furnishing pornographic materials to a minor.

Feltner, of Columbia, has been charged in Cole County Circuit Court after allegedly engaging in sexually explicit conversations online with an undercover officer posing as a 13-year-old girl.

"At no time was our office notified of this alleged misconduct by a member of my staff," Kinder said in a statement released Friday afternoon. "While these allegations have yet to be proven, I feel that even the appearance of impropriety on such a disturbing scale cannot be tolerated."
