Dr. Jim Simpson, whose seven-year tenure as Joplin R-8 superintendent ended June 30 was profiled in the July 18 South County Times. Simpson took over as superintendent of the Lindbergh School District July 1.
The article gives some background on Simpson and details some of the challenges he will face with his new school district:
First on Simpson's list is the challenge to continue Lindbergh's academic success, as the requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind law (NCLB) become more stringent in the coming years.
"Lindbergh has done very well at meeting the (NCLB) benchmarks, but the easy ones are behind us now," Simpson said, noting that the law calls for 100 percent of students to reach proficiency by 2014. "That last part is going to be a very difficult journey.
"Lindbergh has kept up, but now you have to keep going up," Simpson continued. "We'll rely on our classroom teachers to look at each child individually, to make sure that each student has what they need to succeed."
