Globe endorses Hulshof

The Joplin Globe Editorial Board has endorsed Congressman Kenny Hulshof for the GOP nomination for governor. In an editorial posted this morning, Globe editors said:

Hulshof and Steelman, in separate interviews last week, spoke to members of the Globe’s editorial board and youth editorial board. Our two groups came away with the same conclusion — Hulshof has the better connection with Southwest Missourians.

“Hulshof makes a better impression,” said one member of the youth editorial board. “Much of what he said made an impression on me, where Steelman didn’t. Steelman had the same list of answers for most of the questions.”

The teen’s comments succinctly summed up our thoughts as a group.

If that teen's comments "succinctly summed up" their thoughts, I have to worry about their thinking process. "Steelman had the same list of answers for most of the questions." What does that mean?

Unfortunately, the rest of the Globe's editorial is just about as lucid. Commenters who favor the Hulshof candidacy are already praising the editorial, but it is one of the weakest pieces of writing on a page that has become known for weak pieces of writing.

In other words, the Globe has endorsed a candidate for governor without telling the reader why it selected that candidate.
