Harris outlines plans during interview with Turner Report
The primary goals Jeff Harris will aim for if he becomes Missouri's attorney general is to "protecting consumers and protecting our natural resources.
The attorney general is elected to stand up for consumers," Harris told The Turner Report during the Joplin stop on the "Give 'em Hell, Harris," tour across the state. "That is why I am seeking this position. It is all about standing up for the underdog...standing up for the people who are being taken advantage of."
The natural resources portion of Harris' goal is addressed in his plan to deal with concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). The Harris plan calls for local control when it comes to CAFOs, something which has been fought by the powerful corporate agricultural interests and legislators who have been the recipients of their campaign contributions.
Another portion of Harris' plan calls for requiring the Department of Natural Resources to do more than just give lip service to the idea of citizen input.
Harris, who has been the only Democratic attorney general candidate to visit the Joplin/Neosho area this year (unless Chris Koster or Margaret Donnelly slipped in while I wasn't looking), said he has been pleased with the reception he has had in this area, including visits to Joplin and Neosho a few weeks ago. "I'm not a stranger to this part of the state," he said.
Harris said he will be no stranger to the Joplin area if he wins the Democratic nomination on Tuesday.
"I am a Democrat who believes it is important for all of those seeking statewide office to be all over the state. We feel like we will do well in this area."
