Though Missourians will be interested in how Claire McCaskill fares on the national stage, and the speech by potential First Lady Michelle Obama will draw interest, the only drama at tonight's Democratic Convention opening will be the appearance of Massachusetts Gov. Ted Kennedy, who was recently diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.
It is still not known whether the senator will speak. If he does, it is likely to be the last major speech of the only politician around who can actually hold his own with Obama as an orator.
Though Kennedy's style is more of the old fire-and-brimstone politics, he has been the most effective speaker in the Democratic party over the past four decades.
