Congressman Kenny Hulshof received $110,350 in oversized contributions Monday, including $40,350 in what will probably be untraceable money through the committee laundering system. As you may recall, that laundering system was one of the sales points, Charlie Shields and friends used as they pushed the removal of campaign contribution limits. Supposedly, this new law would provide transparency to the campaign fundraising process.
As we known now, it only provides transparency if you want it to provide transparency. Anyone who wants to slip some money to a favored candidate can still do so through secretly through the legislative and district committees, which somehow still existed once this law went into effect.
The top contribution for Hulshof Monday was $50,000 from Hunter Engineering Company, Bridgeton, followed by the $40,350 in committee contributions, which included $13,450 apiece from the 3rd Congressional District Committee, the 7th State Senatorial District Republican Committee, and the 128th District Republican Legislative Committee out of Joplin.
Ten thousand dollar contributions came from Roy Pfautch, Civic Service, Inc., St. Louis; and Positronic Industries, Springfield.
