While the most talked about oversized contributions since limits were repealed Aug. 28 have come in the gubernatorial race between Jay Nixon and Kenny Hulshof, the really big money is being devoted to Proposition A.
What appears to be the biggest contribution in this big money era, $2.6 million, was made today by Pinnacle Entertainment in its continuing effort to push the passage of Proposition A, which would prevent any future competition for casinos, cut Missouri's loss limits rule so gamblers could lose more money, and supposedly place more money into education.
With today's $2,613,000 contribution, Pinnacle has already spent $1,787,500 on Sept. 2, adding up to $4.4 million in less than a month. Ameristar Casinos has matched Pinnacle dollar for dollar in earlier contributions, so it would be no surprise to see another $2.6 million going to the Yes on A Committee sometime in the next few days.
Though the committee initially called itself Yes for School First Committee, education groups have not supported the proposal. Every cent the committee has received has come from Pinnacle Entertainment and Ameristar Casinos.
