Civil suit court dates set for McDonald County Prosecuting Attorney

A pre-trial conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, in McDonald County Circuit Court in a civil suit filed by HSBC against Prosecuting Attorney Janice Durbin. The lawsuit was filed Oct. 6, according to court records.

The case is one of three filed this year against Ms. Durbin, who filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy Monday.

Bank Midwest won a $6,370.77 judgment against Ms. Durbin Sept. 9, court records indicate. No payment is recorded as of this morning.

A Feb. 10 trial date has been scheduled in the third case, American Express v. Janice Durbin, which was filed Sept. 22 in McDonald County Circuit Court.

Information about Ms. Durbin's bankruptcy can be found in the Dec. 1 Turner Report.

How is this news? When law school costs nearly $200,000, and when the elected half-time position pays only $45,000, what other result could there be? McDonald County is getting a good deal - paying the prosecutor for half time work but getting 60 hours a week out of her. Seems to me you have a personal agenda to pursue here, because bankruptcy is NOT news.

I have no personal agenda. I don't know the prosecuting attorney. That being said, anytime a public official files for bankruptcy, it is a news story.

As it is anytime the lowest performing building in the Joplin school district is Joplin South. You are paid by the public and you are subject to the same kind of scrutiny when kids are not getting a proper education because of your inability in your profession.

First, I should note that your comment has nothing whatsoever to do with the topic.

Second, it is completely untrue. South's MAP scores have been near the top for the past several years and, despite what one administrator told the Joplin Globe, most of the MAP scores at South were actually up this year, including both eighth grade communication arts and math. Unfortunately, the Globe appears to have no desire to look at the actual scores and report on them.

Anonymous 4:56 a.m.-I'm sure Janice knew what that position paid before she took it.

Hey anonymous are you feeling a little testy that Janice can't handle her finances? If she works 60 hours a week I'll laugh my fat tail off. She might hang out there 60 hours a week but I doubt they get 60 hours of work out of her.

Randy, I fully agree that the bankruptcy filing is news and should be reported. But I also agree that you look through rose colored glasses when it comes to education and, especially, when it comes to your school and your classroom.

Education has been part of my entire life and I honestly believe that public education is on a downhill track. I stand strongly against home schooling for a multitude of reasons and I see public schools edging closer and closer to that.

From all I have read and heard about your classroom, you put social, cultural and personal issues ahead of knowledge. I also sense you want to be a friend to your students. These qualities, my friend, are not good and I honestly believe you are not a great teacher.

I know you will rant and rage over this and declare that I have never been in your classroom, etc., etc.

I take the same privilege you do when you make comments about political people, newspapers, etc. you don't agree with.

So Randy, I hope you will always see yourself as a teacher, not a friend. I hope you dress like an adult (maybe someone can give you more ties for Christmas) not like the kids. And yes, I think men teachers should wear ties and no blue jeans or tee-shirts.

Kids don't need more friends nearly as much as they need teachers.

Judging from your comments, you have not talked to anyone who has actually ever been in one of my classes or who has ever seen me teach.
I am curious about where you have read or heard these bad things about my teaching.

Not paying Federal taxes (IRS) and going chapter 13 while wearing Victoria's Secrets is slapping all honest Americans who live by the rule of law. What a joke she is.

Just as I said (5:58 AM) your response is predictable (Judging from your comments, you have not talked to anyone who has actually ever been in one of my classes or who has ever seen me teach.)

I know several teachers in your school and I know you personally...and your attitude and bias reads like a book.

Is it true that you put great emphasis on social, cultural and personal things...above installing knowledge and teaching how to use that knowledge in the real world.

Do you praise your students for content over execution? Content is easy, execution is a bit more difficult and worth much more. We can all call or write about peace but we need people who can make it happen through wisdom and knowledge?

Sorry Randy. I'm not convinced.

The people of McDonald County need to take a long look at Janice Durbin. She is not doing her job and is letting criminals get away to commit other crime against innocent victims. She should not be the DA in your county or anywhere for that fact.
