Committee okays Emery adult entertainment bill


By a 9-4-1 vote today, the House Committee on Local Government approved Rep. Ed Emery's bill to regulate adult entertainment businesses.

Those testifying for HB 321 were Emery; Scott D. Bergthold; John L. Putnam, Citizens for a Decent Environment; Dr. John P. Splinter, National Coalition for the Protection of Children and Families; Dawnissa Lawrence; Missouri Eagle Forum;
Terry Franklin, The Show; Missouri Family Network; and Missouri Baptist Convention, Christian Life Commission.

Testifying against the bill were Missouri Association of Club Executives; Daniel Linz; Nellie Symm-Gruender, Passions Video, Incorporated, Passions, Too, Passions in Columbia; Angelina Spencer, Association of Club Executives National; and American
Civil Liberties Union of Eastern Missouri.

The bill description includes just about every kind of activity related to sex that the author could think of, and perhaps a few more.

Among the bill's 27 co-sponsors are Rep. Marilyn Ruestman, R-Joplin, Rep. Ron Richard, R-Joplin, Rep. Bryan Stevenson, R-Webb City; and Rep. Kevin Wilson, R-Neosho.
