Move over, Nodler and Goodman, Sarah Steelman may enter Seventh District race

Washington. D. C. political newspaper, The Hill, indicates former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman has changed focus and might run for Roy Blunt's Seventh District Congressional seat instead of running against Blunt for U. S. Senate:

Missouri GOP consultant David Barklage, who is advising state Sen. Jack Goodman in the 7th district race, said Steelman is almost definitely out on a Senate run and that she’s probably about 50-50 on running for Congress.

“It became apparent she wasn’t going to run for Senate when the Club for Growth looked like they were going to sit out,” he said. “When you run for statewide office in Missouri, there are 200 people you call. She’s not called any of those people.

“I think, other than her not wanting to announce she’s out until she decides what else to do, she’s out.

Last I checked Rolla, Mo was outside the 7th. Is she considering a "carpetbagger" candidacy, ie running for the office out of a rented apartment somewhere?

You don't have to live in a Congressional District to run for it. You only have to live within the state. However, I assume if she does run she will move down here. She has taught at Missouri State and her son attended Drury University.

Doesn't that bring her to carpetbagger status if she runs?.

If you win a congressional seat but don't live in the district, then you must move into the district.

Steelman is currently teaching one course at Missouri State University.

I'm told her husband is doing more legal work in Springfield, so a move there would benefit both of them....

Yes "capetbagger" is the right term. While it is true that you don't have to live in the district, only the state, it is rare for such a carpetbagger to be accepted, especially in the traditional 7th district. It just won't work here. In this case, she doesn't even live close, she is 100 miles from the district.

So they are both toying with the carpetbagger status.
