Barton County pension dispute to go before state supreme court

A ruling that Barton County does not have to pay money into the prosecuting attorney retirement fund because it is a violation of the Hancock Amendment will be argued before the Missouri Supreme Court Sept. 2.

Barton County had made the payments up until January 2002 when the funding from the Department of Social Services that funded them was discontinued. The Missouri Prosecuting Attorneys and Circuit Attorneys Retirement System filed suit Nov. 9, 2006. Judge Kevin Selby ruled in favor of Barton County officials Oct. 20, 2008.

Named as defendants in the action were the commissioners at the time, Gerry Miller, Dennis Wilson, and the late John Stockdale.
