An arrest warrant was issued for former Kanakuk Kamp counselor Pete Newman after he failed to appear for a hearing today in Taney County Circuit Court.
Newman's bond was increased to $100,000, according to online court records. It had been $50,000.
Newman is charged with four felony sex crimes involving underaged boys. More information came be found in
this post from earlier today.
UPDATE: Newman
arrives late with lawyer.
Can't believe he didn't show! What would be the reason for that?? Big mistake I would think. Can you keep us posted? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI thought that the court hearing was set for 10 a.m. Your post was much earlier than that. Can you help us understand this, please?
ReplyDeletePlease give updates or sources to how we can follow this story more closely. Thanks.

thanks so much for posting the link. does anyone have any idea WHY he wouldn't show up??
ReplyDeleteFor sure, I know Pete and his family were in Taney County.
ReplyDeleteNotice an arrest warrant was also issued back on Sept 15th when he made his first appearance. I think that's standard procedure.
Also, there were several people scheduled to appear before the judge at 10 a.m.
The report that he "failed" to appear came at least an hour before he was scheduled to appear. We'll have to wait to see what really happened. Most likely, he was there.
They would have only issued another warrant for his arrest if he did not show. Probably some procastination scheme by his lawyer to reset hearing. He'll have to pay another $5,000 to reset while they work on the case. New warrant was just issued today.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the court documents, there was only one other hearing scheduled at 10am. There are court documents online showing that a warrant has been issued for his arrest today. There would be no warrant issued had he been in court.
ReplyDeleteHow do you know for sure that he and his family were in MO today? Thought they were staying in Ohio with his twin.

ReplyDeletePlease get your information correct. He did not fail to show, he was 14 min late.
ReplyDeleteWHY would you arrive late for something like this?!? Of all days to be late! Glad he's in jail now.
ReplyDeleteThe time shown in each post is not necessarily the time that the person sent it... I am sending this at 3:20 pm on Oct 29, 2009
ReplyDeleteWhy on earth has this PREDATOR OF CHILDREN been allowed to walk free anyway?!?!?!?! He should have been behind bars since the first of this. What kind of "responsible" judge would allow him to walk on just $50K ????????????? Parents, watch your children, especially if you live in Lebanon, Ohio or Fayetteville, Arkansas, or Dallas, Texas, or Griffin, Georgia. He is dangerous! He is a predator. A conniving, master-manipulator! Be careful!
ReplyDeletePete did show up to court today. He was about 5 minutes late because his lawyer said to wait for him outside, which he did, and his lawyer was late. The judge said he wanted Pete in the courtroom at 10am, no matter if his lawyer was late or not.
ReplyDeleteThe judge set the preliminary hearing for 1pm, November 17th.
ReplyDeleteHas he gotten back out of jail again?
ReplyDeleteNewman showed up late with his attorney, Tom Clark of Springfield. I have posted another story.
