Long leads Nodler by $300,000 in fundraising battle

The person who raises the most money does not always win political races.

That being said, auctioneer Billy Long has to like his chances in the Seventh District Congressional race. As reported earlier, Long raised $126,816 during the final three months of 2009, and has $478,641 in the bank.

Nodler's fourth quarter fundraising trailed Long's by a considerable amount. Federal Election Commission dcouments show the Joplin Republican received $74,988.46, trailing Long by nearly $52,000 and has $179,774.24, almost $300,000 behind Long.

Information on the other GOP candidates, including Sen. Jack Goodman, R-Mount Vernon, and Greene County Prosecuting Attorney Darrell Moore, was not available at the FEC site.

I've always been a supporter of Gary Nodler, but I'm actually thinking of switching to Billy Long just because the Senator hasn't done a single thing to straighten out the Speck mess at MSSU. The Senator has secured thousands (millions, perhaps) of dollars of additional funding for MSSU over the years, but on this period of crisis for the university he has remained strangely silent. Gary, you know the guy's a disaster, why won't you help us?

    Meet the MSSU
    Board of Governors

    Rod Anderson, Chair
    David H. Jones, Vice Chair
    David Ansley
    H. Dwight Douglas
    Charles C. McGinty
    Nancy D. Perry
    Richard A. Walter
One Vacant Position to be appointed by Missouri Governor

    Student Represenative
    Faculty Senate Representative
    Staff Senate Representative

Are these not the people charged with the responsibility to make decisions at MSSU?

I do not believe Senator Nodler,Doc Hall, Dewey Short,President Obama or any other individuals outside the Board of Governors have the authority to remove the President.

    What am I missing Ghost?

Here's what you're missing: The MSSU Board of Governors is inept. They have allowed the university to become the laughingstock around the state of Missouri. Yes, those in Columbia and Jefferson City are very familiar with the situation here. We need Senator Nodler to do more for MSSU than just secure funding, we need him to remind the Board of Governors that the status quo here is unacceptable. The Board of Governors appears to be asleep at the switch most of the time. Case in point: Dr. Speck's complete mishandling of the 2 million dollar storm shelter while the Board snoozed. The university completely wasted $400,000 dollars on that project and we still have no storm shelter. We need Senator Nodler to be more like Senator Richard M. Webster: take care of the university in all aspects not just monetarily.

  5. I am about to pull the post about a Joplin radio station running the information from this post without giving credit. I see that the station has now credited The Turner Report with this story.

What a bunch of ..... How is it possible there are people in this town (and the university) that think Gary Nodler should help us!:

GARY NODLER IS BEHIND THE WHOLE MESS!!!

He and his buddy Dwight Douglas wanted to be MSSU co-presidents and got themselves a puppet (an incompetent puppet at that) to do their dirty work.

Now that they messed everything and he is running for Congress, is it any wonder he is so quiet about MSSU?

If I were running for office, I wouldn't talk about MSSU either...I sure wouldn't brag about the way it had destroyed itself from the inside!

Instead of blaming Nodler, why not just blame Bush....

finger pointing and whining is really gonna solve whatever problems there REALLY are..

If MSSU closed its doors tomorrow, it would be a blessing. The whole place is a mess. Many of the students are unprepared for college and many have flunked out of other schools and come there as a result. In many departments, good teachers have been sent packing or forced to retire, and adjuncts who are barely qualified are working in their place; and the administration, corrupt and greedy and looking out only for themselves, have managed to push the Peter Principle to the max; Most of the department heads have been promoted to their level of incompetence, and the same can be said for most of the managerial staff. Crowder does a much better job of teaching students than MSSU does, and while Pitt State is not exactly Harvard, it is light years ahead of MSSU in education quality. MSSU should close and go back to being a cattle farm.
