Pete Newman told a room full of parents and victims in Taney County Circuit Court moments ago that "my heart beats for kids."
Newman's sentencing started on time, according to a tweet from Kathee Baird of the Crime Scene Blog.
Newman's sentence can range anywhere from five to 171 years, according to Missouri guidelines.

Oh geez.
yeah, heard that before....OBVIOUSLY, it beats for kids...young, pre-pubescent-boys to be exact...
I can't believe he said that. Not exactly heartwarming coming from a pedophile.
Is he completely delusional?! Did his attorney think that statement would be positively received?
His attorney is not aware, STILL, of the far-reaching-impact Pete had. His attorney just doesn't understand how influential that Pete was. He doesn't get it. Pete has lied to him the whole way.
Lord, please let the words of those brave boys who share today BREAK Pete's heart for good.
What exactly is that dumb-ass comment supposed to even mean, especially coming from his mouth?! For the boys in that courtroom, what a slap in their face! Pete Newman is STILL LYING, still attempting to come off sounding like he loves these kids. Well, you don't show people you love that you love them by doing to them what he did. What a JOKE for him to even dare to say that!
I am Sooo glad he said that!!!
I have no idea of the context of such a comment but clearly the judge must know that he needs to keep this person away from children.
Yes, Pete Newman, we KNOW your "heart" (*and other organs*) beat for "kids" (God's precious creations). I'm more interested in what the victims and families have to say.
Great point, 8:18.
If the judge wasn't planning on the max, that should have pushed the judge further in that direction.
If the quote is correct, he did not say his heart breaks for them which would indicate remorse and guilt but said it beats for them which suggests desire. Big difference. Closer to what a true pedophile would say.
Amanda, are you at the courthouse?
If so, I'd like to know who speaks of Pete's behalf and what they have to say.
Ignore my previous post Amanda. I got you and Kathee confused.
FYI, I'm not at the courthouse, but I am in contact with people there. I have 100% confidence in Mr. Turner's reporting based on what he's provided us so far. The media in Dallas are tuned into this blog and comments. There are several unknown victims from Texas, and when Missouri is done with Newman, then Colorado, I personally feel the Texas penal system is an excellent place for Newman to dwell in his remorse, but that's just me.
I also thank God for someone like Randy Turner who will break from the pack and report this story (and others like it). I don't know him personally, and I appreciate anyone willing to stick their neck out to report. (In this day and age, this type of bravery only happens when editors and advertisors aren't in the mix.)
Keep praying, y'all!
As someone who was in the youth group when Pete first started mentoring kids during his time at Auburn, and then worked with him later at the same youth group, this is just so tragic. Not because of Pete, but because of the far reaching consequences of his actions. I was able to see firsthand how he infiltrated families and became the guy that parents encouraged their kids to be like. It is one thing to be a creepy guy in a white van who violently attacks a kid. At least then the kid has the ability to say, "That was an evil man who did that." However, to literally seduce entire families and then interweave feelings of admiration, spirituality, guilt, and sex together all in a young boy's mind is just sickening. I hope he is in jail for the entirety of his life. I hurt for his family and their loss and pain. I hurt for those victims (and believe me, those who have come forward have only scratched the surface).
It's funny, about 6 or so years ago I can remember sitting with a group of women who all felt there was something off about Pete. No one suspected that he was molesting kids, but rather that he was almost trying to create a little army, like a cult. I only wish we had known sooner.
Do the victims read their impact statements and then Pete's side speaks? Then the judge hands down the sentence? Just trying to understand the process.
I am also praying for incredible strength, a clear mind & courage for everyone testifying against Pete, that the judge would see through any deception, and allow him to suffer the consequences of his actions & give him the maximum sentence possible. If he turns his life around in prison then, let him stay there & make a positive difference behind bars. I am sickened to think that my kids ever looked up to him as a spiritual mentor and role model and that he was not caught sooner!
what does Kathee's latest tweet mean?
" P ????n?A?4? r???0?,/?? :? &??r:????A??\(f???0??.??s# DE?? t?^ ???y?M/?Awy?N/?Asz?^n???9?? )??s%???] g?? ?A??( ??exX^&???0??.????'d???"
Guess it's some sort of error?
Don't forget people in Auburn, AL when he was a youth counselor at Auburn United Methodist Church. He went skinny dipping with D-Group (Disciplship Group) on several occassions. Several other incients happened that went unreported there with out people complaining. He needs to be locked away for life. He has brought so much shame upon himself in too many places around the US for him to be allowed into public.
As far as Kathee's tweet is concerned, it very well could be a problem with Twitter. It has been difficult to work with all morning.
Randy, any updates??? Thank you for keeping those of us who live out of state updated!
I haven't heard anything, but I will keep monitoring all of the places where information might be forthcoming.
Thank you!
Again, Randy Thank you. Your site and coverage has been the ONLY place to go for this out of state (MO) family anxious to hear the sentencing. Praying for justice to be served and for all victims and their families.
it must be pretty intense in the courtroom, i have a buddy in the courtroom and he's not responding, do they make them turn their phones off?
Any news on sentencing? Thanks in advance for all your help.
A so called GOOD guy doesn't screw up your little boy's mind and life in the name of Jesus Christ. He doesn't do it over and over again to innocent children that look up to him as an example of how to live a Christlike life. Pete Newman didn't just screw up; he totally destroyed 100's of lives and put doubt in the hearts of children and families about God and about trust. He is a horrible criminal. If you had a son and you put your trust in Kanakuk Kamp and Pete Newman to be a role model for him, and your son was molested and told to not tell anyone, you may have a different opinion of Pete Newman. Imagine your innocent son being damaged for life spiritually, mentally, and physically by someone you trusted to help him grow as a Christian. Just imagine.

Listen up!I am not a prissy Mom, I happen to be a Man! Pete is NOT a good guy and if you are lucky you will never find this out by being alone with him. There is nothing selfish about taking children to therapy for the rest of our lives. Want to join in? Sounds like you could use some therapy yourself.

IDIOT...seriously, sounds like you have just a little too much sympathy going of for a serial pedophile...got some similiar issues yourself or what???
