Taney County Prosecutor Jeff Merrell declined to say what his sentencing recommendation would be.
"I think that a lengthy sentence will be appropriate based on the case," he said, adding that the circumstances of the abuse, especially that Newman was a trusted adult, led to his decision.
He said the fact that Newman pleaded guilty had little bearing on Merrell's sentencing recommendation.
"In some cases that certainly does make a difference; however, just based on this particular case and the facts of the case and its broad impact, you might say, I don't think it's going to make a difference," he said.

Taney County prosecutor will recommend lengthy sentence for Pete Newman
Barring unexpected circumstances, Pete Newman is being sentenced as this is being written. And one thing is for sure. Based on quotes in an article in today's Springfield News-Leader, Taney County Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Merrell is going to ask that the book be thrown at the former Kanakuk Kamp director:
I pray the judge will have the Lord's wisdom in making this difficult decision.
ReplyDeleteRandy...why are your posts out of order by date?
ReplyDeleteIt isn't that way on my computer.
ReplyDeleteRandy, your posts keep getting moved around...not appearing in order of date, and some are missing at random times. Have you removed some? For example, after the hearing last wk, you should 2 video clips, but now there's only one. What's going on b/c we're trying to follow conversations that keep disappearing or being moved around.
ReplyDeleteOn my computer when you search Pete Newman at your sight...top left hand corner...the postings show in this order.

....and continues in jumbled order (by date that is). It is not showing the latest post first and all posts following are not in the order in which you posted. Latest to oldest as it was before.
If it helps, I think it started being out of order on Saturday or Sunday.
This post here..."Taney County prosecutor will recommend lengthy sentence for Pete Newman"...is the first posting shown when you do a Pete Newman search at your blogsite.
ReplyDeleteOf course, you have had many newer posts since this one and they are way down on the blog.
DOES ANYBODY OUT THERE KNOW HOW THE NEWMAN FAMILY IS DOING? OF COURSE WE DON"T WANT ANY DETAILS, BUT GENERALLY-SPEAKING, ARE THEY OKAY?
ReplyDeleteWHAT ABOUT KATIE?
We know that at least close friends of the Newman and Galloway families read this blog, so please tell us how they are. Everybody loved them, regardless of how we feel about Pete.
Randy, why won't you answer the above questions?
ReplyDeleteWhere has all that gone?
Again...Randy, why did you remove all those other posts?
ReplyDeleteI have not removed any posts. The problem is with Blogger. If you go to The Turner Report site and scroll down through all stories, whether they concern Kanakuk and Pete Newman or not, you will find every story I have written. I realize that is a bit inconvenient, but it is the only way I know for certain of going back through and making sure you do not miss anything.
