NRA endorses Emerson in 8th District

I doubt if Tommy Sowers is losing any sleep over this, but the National Rifle Association has endorsed his opponent, incumbent Republican Rep.  Jo Ann Emerson in the Eighth Congressional District. From the news release:

Jo Ann Emerson has received the endorsement of the National Rifle Association for election to Congress from Missouri's Eighth Congressional District.  She is the only candidate in the race to earn the support of the nearly 4-million-member organization devoted to protecting Second Amendment rights.

"The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund is proud to lend our support to Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson," said Chris W. Cox, chairman of NRA-PVF. "I have known Jo Ann for years and seen firsthand her dedication and leadership in protecting the Second Amendment and Missouri gun owners and sportsmen. Because of her solid and consistent pro-gun support, Jo Ann Emerson has earned an 'A' rating and endorsement from NRA-PVF. I urge every hunter and gun owner to reelect Congresswoman Emerson on August 3rd."

"I'm very honored to have the support of the NRA and of their many members in the Eighth Congressional District,” said Emerson.  “In Southern Missouri, hunting and sportsmanship are part of life.  So is the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms for the defense of our property, our homes and our families.  I take defending these rights seriously."

Emerson supports national recognition of right-to-carry reciprocity and opposes the Blair Holt's Firearms Licensing and Record of Sale Act, H.R. 45, in the U.S. House of Representatives.  She has also signed amicus briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court in support of preserving Second Amendment rights, striking down unconstitutional laws prohibiting gun ownership in the District of Columbia and the City of Chicago.  The Court's June 2010 decision in the latter case guaranteed Second Amendment rights in all 50 states.

"In addition to the responsibility of legislators to protect the Second Amendment, there is also an obligation to be an advocate to the executive branch and the judiciary.  As a representative of our congressional district, it is extremely important to me to protect the rights of law-abiding gun owners." said Emerson.
