Sowers reaches $1 million mark

Democrat Tommy Sowers surpassed his $1 million fundraising goal for the second quarter, according to a campaign news release. Sowers will face incumbent Jo Ann Emerson in November:

The Tommy Sowers for Congress campaign continued its upward fundraising trajectory, posting its best quarter yet and bringing its total raised this cycle to over $1 million. Sowers reported total net contributions of $331,277 for the second quarter of 2010, bringing his total for the election cycle to $1,009,478. Although incumbent Jo Ann Emerson has yet to release her Q2 results, Sowers outraised Emerson for two of the last three quarters.


Said Sowers, “I’m incredibly proud of the team that we’ve built and what we’ve accomplished. We’re showing a DC insider that she can’t phone in her campaign when the voters are demanding new blood. We’ve built interest in this race because we’re out there earning votes person by person, listening to their concerns and working side-by-side with them.”

The second quarter’s fundraising was driven by 1208 individual contributors, 747 of them new. 802 of the contributors for this quarter were below the $200 Federal Election Commission disclosure threshold. 97% of the contributions to Sowers this quarter came from individuals.

Said Sowers Campaign Manager Jonathan Feifs, “Our growing army of individual supporters is fired up about out the campaign, and their financial ammunition is helping us communicate our message across the district. While Tommy is out on Boots on the Ground for the month of July, this allows us to run a modern media campaign to support the face-to-face voter contact he is making daily.”
