Hartzler radio ad: Ike Skelton has been lying to us and he knows it

A new radio ad issued by the Vicky Hartzler campaign refutes Ike Skelton's ad which criticizes Ms. Hartzler's record on veterans' issues.

The Vicky Hartzler for Congress campaign has released a new radio ad now being heard on stations throughout the 4th Congressional District. It features three veterans who praise Vicky Hartzler's commitment to our men and women in uniform while denouncing the lies and distortions leveled against her by opponent Ike Skelton.


"It's my sad duty to report that our congressman, Ike Skelton, has been lying to us and he knows it," says Colonel Dick Hobbs, USMC (Retired), former Marine Commander at Fort Leonard Wood, "I've thoroughly examined Vicky Hartzler's record from back when she served in the Missouri House. Vicky's record was outstanding in support of the Guard, the Reserves, active duty service members, veterans and their families."

Paul Dockery, Lieutenant Colonel, USAF (Retired) offers his praise: "I looked for myself and found Vicky Hartzler's votes and actions have always been supportive of the military and our mission."

"Vicky Hartzler's father was an Army Reservist. We don't get better friends for the veterans and our families than Vicky Hartzler," says Brad Reagan, a veteran of the Missouri Army National Guard. "I don't know why he's lying about Vicky Hartzler. Mr. Skelton, that dog won't hunt."

Vicky Hartzler has an unblemished record of pro-military votes in the Missouri General Assembly. From 1995 through 2000 she voted "yes" on Department of Public Safety budgets that included - cumulatively - millions of dollars in funding for National Guard services. Those votes include House Bill 8 from 1999 - a bill that had $659,440 for National Guard Education Assistance and $2.1 million for a military honors program; and House Bill 1108 from 2000 which had $1.6 million for the National Guard Tuition Assistance Program and $2.2 million for the National Guard Trust Fund.

Vicky and Lowell Hartzler live near Harrisonville in Cass County, where they operate a diversified crop and livestock family farming operation. They own Hartzler Equipment Company, a family business with three stores in the 4th District. A former classroom teacher, Hartzler served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 1995-2001, winning with an average 66 percent of the vote in her three election victories. In 2004, she was spokesperson for Missouri’s successful constitutional amendment to protect traditional marriage.
