Sowers has best fundraising quarter

Tommy Sowers, the Democratic candidate for Eighth District Congress reported his best fundraising quarter yet with $414,000:

Tommy Sowers closed out third quarter fundraising with his strongest performance yet. Sowers reported total net contributions of $413,683, bringing his overall total for this election cycle to $1,433,565. The campaign continued to grow its grassroots network of supporters, adding 751 new donors during the quarter bringing its total to 3,577 individual contributors. 941 people made small dollar contributions of less than $200 last quarter (and of those, 747 won’t be disclosed on the FEC report because they’ve given less than $200 total to the campaign.) Almost half of the contributions came from Missouri. Sowers commented:


“People are excited about this race. They see the opportunity to send someone who will fight for our home and provide leadership in Congress on defense issues and the Afghanistan War. We’ve built grassroots support by campaigning the old-fashioned way, by making thousands of phone calls and knocking on thousands of doors. And thanks to my army of supporters, we’ve got the ammunition to fight this race to the finish.”

Sowers’ opponent, Jo Ann Emerson, has not yet released Q3 numbers. To date, Emerson has received nearly half of her funds from PACs and special interests, compared to the 97% of funds Sowers has raised from individuals.

Sowers’ campaign manager Jonathan Feifs provided the following comment on the release:

“Unlike Jo Ann Emerson, Tommy Sowers is not bought and paid for by DC lobbyists. We’ve received contributions from individuals in all 50 states. Almost 4,000 people have given to Tommy, mostly in small amounts. This is truly a grassroots movement – energized and led by people, not special interests.”
