Missouri GOP letter asks that McCaskill be held accountable in private plane controversy

The Missouri GOP has released a letter, which ran this morning in the Springfield News-Leader, in which it challenges Sen. Claire McCaskill to "come clean" about the scandal that has arisen from her use of taxpayer funds to pay for travel on private planes owned by her husband's company. The senator has repaid the money, but the GOP says questions remain:

Dear Senator McCaskill,


As you leave Washington, D.C. to visit Missouri this week, there is an open question that bears directly upon your honesty and a promise that you made to Missourians, and you must answer it:

Did you profit from the $76,000 taxpayer dollars you paid to your companies, Sunset Cove LLC and Timesaver LLC, for the use of your own private plane?

You directed taxpayer dollars to your own company, but now claim you didn’t make a profit. We simply ask that you prove it.

You told us that you wanted to be held accountable. Now you’re asking us to “trust you” that you didn’t abuse your position for personal profit. But Senator, this isn’t the Tell-Me State—it’s the Show-Me State.

Release Sunset Cove LLC’s and Timesaver LLC’s tax records immediately.

We hope that you will hold yourself to the same accountability and transparency standards that you demand of others—and show Missourians that you are not just a hypocritical politician making the system work for yourself.
