As if there was ever any doubt about how Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder stood on the issue of educational vouchers.
About five minutes ago, Kinder tweeted that he was overjoyed that the budget deal reached by Congress Friday includes educational vouchers for Washington, D. C.
With one word, "Awesome," Kinder responded to another tweet that mentioned the inclusion of vouchers in the deal.
He's right. Vouchers rock. Talk about being on the wrong side of history - that's anyone who wants to limit choice in this day and age...
ReplyDeleteAs a man who comes from Republican roots, I am livid at the party's hypocrisy on this issue. The Republicans are supposed to be against big government, yet they created a monster with NCLB. They also claim they are against the redistribution of wealth, but that is exactly what vouchers are. If a GOPer is for vouchers, they aren't conservative, but instead are the equivalent of a Bush/Obama Ivy League Tax-and-Spend liberal. I already pay for a school district with my tax dollars; no way do I want to pay for the education of others who live all the way across the country. However I think the ole' GOP is really making all this racket on education to make them appear righteous while allowing their Big Oil and Wall Street CEO friends to get away with crimes behind the scene.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but they only work part time, 8 months of the year...right? When you take the salary and consider it's only for 8 months it's not too bad...right? If they work more they get paid for it...right?
ReplyDeleteAND they're off for the summer so they don't pay for day care....right?
I am constantly defending teachers to these type of indictments. Recently, a friend's daughter FINALLY landed a job teaching! When I saw her I congratulated her and asked how she liked it. Her reply shocked me. She said she didn't make much money. I asked if she didn't know that in advance of working so hard for her degree. She responded that she did know but she wanted to have a family someday and wanted her summers off so teaching was her choice for that reason. No one was more shocked than me at her response.
Case rested. I just hope she likes kids and didn't choose her career path solely for economic reasons.
