Brennan Stebbins, editor of Missouri Southern State University's campus newspaper, the Chart, was a national finalist in the Society of Professional Journalists editorial writing competition for the second year in a row.
Stebbins received first place honors in April from the regional SPJ in editorial writing and breaking news coverage, with the latter award coming as a result of his dogged coverage of the hiring of a convicted embezzler as an accounting instructor at MSSU.
On April 2, Stebbins was named Journalist of the Year by the Missouri College Media Association and took first place in investigative reporting and regular column; second place in editorial writing and in-depth reporting; and honorable mention in news writing.
