The expedited process of getting schools ready to open for the 2011-2012 school year is underway, Superintendent Dr. C. J. Huff said at a press conference earlier this afternoon.
"We began reconstruction of East Middle School this afternoon," Huff said.
Other items related at the press conference:
-All students have been accounted for at Duenweg, Irving, Kelsey Norman, Emerson, Columbia, and Stapleton elementary schools. Huff said, "We need every student who has not checked in to do whether they were in the affected area or not.
-School will start in 83 days.

-As a symbol of the district's resolve, flags have been raised at every school across the district, including Joplin High School
-The R-8 Board of Education held a planning session today after the press conference.
